Best score of the year

#1 Post by diveboy » Fri Dec 23, 2016 6:04 pm

Can either be the best bargain, most sort after model or just something you danced a jig to holding it after it arrived?

I scored a 14k gold lady Elgin for $5 shipped.

This falls in the “danced a jig” category. I have been researching watches that were made by the American Waltham Watch Co. for the E. Howard Watch Co., ca.1902-1905. The two companies discussed making a ladies’ watch for Howard but never put it into production. I had known of the existence of this prototype example for more than 20 years and was finally able to bring it into my collection. It is a size 6/0 movement (approximately 25 mm) and is top quality. As far as anyone knows, it is a unique example.

I discussed this watch at greater length here - http://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?1308 ... que-Howard

this may not be my financial score but, it is the most unlikely to have occurred.
because if you've ever messed with LED watches you know that finding a replacment movement is not easy.
Here is the progression of the repair.
