The RED XII Saga Continues..........in ICELAND!

#1 Post by Literustyfan » Mon Dec 04, 2017 8:08 am

Hey guys!

Last week my wife and I visited Iceland and one of the BIG things I was looking forward to when visiting Reykjavik was our time at the JS Watch Company.

The JS Watch Company is probably the smallest mechanical watch manufacturer in the world!

I bought myself a birthday present a couple of weeks before we arrived, a JS Watch Company "Islandus" 44mm RED XII wrist watch.

25 jewel automatic with display caseback, stainless steel case, 22mm lugs.

Those of you who know me well know that I have a hard time laying off of the RED XII's!

The history of RED XII wrist watches goes back well over 100 years and I am extremely pleased that they are keeping this tradition alive and well.

I included several pictures of the antique RED XII's dating back to the Great War era below so you can see the modern version and the antique versions.

I also included one pic of me and my wife at the world famous Blue Lagoon with the mineral rich white silica mud on our faces. LOL!

These fine mechanical timepieces are made in Reykjavik Iceland by master watchmaker Gilbert Gudjonsson and his team.

Everybody there was incredibly kind to us!

I brought Gilbert a copy of my "Waltham Trench Watches of the Great War" book as a gift, everybody in the shop loved it.

I restore "trench watches" from the WWI era, many of them featured a RED XII enamel military dials so I just HAD to obtain the modern automatic version!

They spent WELL over an hour with us and they were extremely happy getting a copy of my book that features a RED XII chapter.

After we took several pics in the front of the shop he took us into the back so we could see his actual workshop.

It was absolutely AMAZING!

After that we walked over to their design studio about a block away, my jaw just about hit the floor!

I would have loved to have taken some pics inside of the design studio but I thought that it would be rude to ask, I'm sure they don't want future watch designs out there yet.

Everybody stopped working and greeted us with smiles, being a published watch book author has it's benefits, LOL!

We got to see all of the CAD drawings of upcoming models that will hit the market soon.

They are going to do a BOLD Arabic RED 12 dial wrist watch designed for the Icelandic Soccer Team as they qualified for the World Cup being held in Russia soon.

Gilbert installed a deployment buckle on my "Islandus 44mm RED XII" free of charge for me, he was very kind, free JS Watch Company T-shirt too!

MANY famous people wear a JS Watch Company "Islandus" like mine including the Dalai Lama, Tom Cruise, Toby Maguire, Ben Stiller, Viggo Mortensen, Elvis Costello, Katie Couric and Dennis Quaid.

This vacation was an adventure I'll fondly remember forever!

INSANE TRIP!!!

When you showed me that watch, I fell in love immediately. How retro/modern cool...
Even better seeing the man and the shop behind it. That sounds like a dream vacation.
I don't want to ask what the mud mask thing going on with Tif was?
Thanks for letting us share in the adventure.
Hilarious T-Shirt.

LOL ! ! ! !

The Blue Lagoon gives you this mineral rich silica mud that is very good for your skin.

You put it on they wait about 10 - 15 minutes for it to dry then simply wash it off in the Lagoon while wading around (towards the Lagoon Bar).
