2018 NAWCC PacNorthwest Regional

#1 Post by inatime » Mon Apr 16, 2018 4:45 pm

Anybody from these forums attending the meet in May in Tacoma, WA? Not a member of the “mothership” or chapter but want to attend this year. Anyone point me in the right direction to register/join? Perhaps a PM from someone organizing?

I am the co-chairman and registrar for the event. Right now we have 120 registered almost 100 tables reserved. We have a ton of door prizes we are giving away and our usual $500 mart drawing. We are raffling 2 clocks that are very special, a Chelsea "Ball" ships clock and a mid 1800's fusse time punch clock.

Our theme this year is Precision-Timing. You can find our member registration information here

Public registration here.

Or just stop by at registration, we have a special first timer NAWCC 1-year membership for $52 dollars. Mention Gary's name and we will get you a free pass to the mart and banquet.

We have an outstanding lineup of programs:

Keynote Address - Get to our free Italian buffet beforehand (with registration)!
Tom Van Baak—7:30 pm Thursday May 17
“The Atomic Clock” - Tom recently appeared on PBS for a Steven Hawking special "Genius"

Banquet Speaker
Rob Keterside – 7:00pm Friday May 18
"Tracing Seattle’s Street Clocks in City Records" - Rob is a Seattle historian. He published his first book Lost Seattle in 2013. He currently serves on the Seattle Mayor’s Landmarks Preservation Board. In 2017 he formed the Capitol Hill Historical Society.

Mini– Universities

Bob Holmstrom—10:30 am Friday May 18
"The Much Maligned Verge and Foliot" - Bob is He is currently the editor of the NAWCC’s Horological Science Newsletter out of Portland

Phil Johansen—1:00 pm Friday May 18
"Warren Telechron Master Clock” - Phil will touch on his Carousel Watch project plus his all-in-one gear cutting machine, whoa!

Stephen "Steve" Nelson—2:30 pm Friday May 18
“Satori and his pendulums” - The extremely popular Steve Nelson will give us a Friday double header.

Stephen "Steve" Nelson—4:00 pm Friday May 18
“The Inner Workings of a Precision Regulator”

Patrick Allen — 10:30 am Saturday May 19
“Orreries”

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Gary. So as I understand, I can enroll in membership and register for the event there on the Thursday? Does the organizing team prefer preregistration?

Patrick,

You most certainly can enroll in membership and register for the event there on the Thursday. You can also enroll at the national (mother-ship) site and then pre-register for the event.

Either way If you're staying the night I would get the hotel room before May 2nd. Take advantage of the NAWCC rate of $119.00 per night.

I am going and will have a table with wristwatches for sale, plus maybe a bunch of pocket watch movements from scrapped cases. Be sure to stop by and say hello.

I most certainly will stop by and say hello Bryan. Maybe even a deal or two to be had!

We put Bryan in section "F" table 11.

I'm a parts guy too and will stop by. I have to be careful, these events turn my hands into shovels :D

Sounds fun, I'll try to make it there. Maybe I can find some bucket list watches, like a Whitney. Thanks for the information on this event.

I have a feeling there will be more watches for sale this year than previous regional events. Normally we rent out 8-10 table-top display cases 15"x24". This year we're surpassing 20. We either have to purchase more cases or find someone to make them for us.
