Re: Help me find (replica?) ribbon band for women's Tonneau watch

Thanks for the pictures. This model is known as a "Cushion" rather than a "Tonneau". You can see it in the 1924 and 1926 catalogues ( http://www.vintagewatchforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=192 , http://www.vintagewatchforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=190 ). Hamilton offered lots of different patterns...

Re: Illinois ID help

Welcome to the Illinois Forum! You have a good Illinois 3/0 movement, from about 1919, and a clean radium dial. They might be a good fit for a case from that period. The case you have is a jobber's case, from probably a decade later than your movement. (Illinois never used cases with stainless backs...

Re: Are these really Illinois?

Both of these watches may have Illinois movements, but neither was a model issued by the Illinois Watch Company. The usual practice until fairly late in the pocket-watch business was for a customer to go to a jeweler and select a case, then select a movement and dial to go in it. Cases and movements...

Re: WRUW 5/20 through 5/26/2018?

An Illinois "Varsity" went out today for a visit to the watch shop where I bought my first Illinois: http://mrtoad.net/Media/201805WRUW/Illinois_Varsity.jpg I hadn't posted this watch in a couple of years because I didn't want to call it just by its old name, "No. 650" (from its case number). I was ...

Re: Illinois Sangamo Special 23J - Would like to learn more

Yes, this is a 60-hour Sangamo Special. The first batches, something over 9,000, were not marked; the last couple of thousand did have the 60-hour marking. This was Illinois' top railroad-grade watch, and production of this model did not continue after Hamilton bought them out. Hamilton did continue...

Re: WRUW 5/6 through 5/12/2018?

Grumpy, I love those Elgins with matching bracelets.

The lugs on the Hamilton-Illinois are just about the strangest things I've seen coming out of Hamilton's design group in that period before they went wild on the electics. The picture doesn't so them justice: little spirals with forked tails.

Re: WRUW 5/6 through 5/12/2018?

I've been waiting a couple of years to wear the watch I wore to church today: http://mrtoad.net/Media/201805WRUW/Hamilton-Illinois_Golden-Male-A.jpg I didn't post this before because I didn't want to give away any secrets. But Fred's book is now loose in the wild, and you can all find out the story ...
