what is the timer telling me?

So I got the Model 1000 timer as several people recommended and am having a fine time with it. Pretty easy to interpret the results but this one is puzzling. This is a 987F. I gave it a test run on receipt and it ran 40 hours gaining about 1-2 minutes the first 24 hours. The one thing in common amon...

Re: timing machine?

Looks like the same machine as offered on Otto Frei but for $109 instead of $140.

I see this same machine on Amazon under various names and suppliers for $120 to $299!

Thanks,

timing machine?

I'm thinking about buying a timer but don't want to spend a ton of money on this. Otto Frei has "The New & Improved Otto Frei Multifunction Timegrapher Watch Timing Machine No. 1000" for about $140.00. Does anyone have experience with this particular model, or other advice? I don't want to make the ...

Re: Dear EBay Sellers:

Still one of the best places to buy watches, can't beat the place!! For sure eBay has contributed to the ability for a collectors’ community such as this to flourish. On the other hand eBay also allows to the unscrupulous behavior that has been cited in this thread. Last Saturday a 1935 Hamilton Wa...

Re: Dear EBay Sellers:

Still one of the best places to buy watches, can't beat the place!! For sure. Sometimes these uninformative and bad photos hide real bargains. My little collection has grown faster than expected because several watches I bought for practice very cheaply ($20) because of bad photos, turned out to be...

That dial looks like Whitman (see also Boone).

crystal cement UV cure in sunlight?

I'm finishing up my first few restoration projects by installing new glass crystals. I got this UV-cure cement: http://www.esslinger.com/watch-crystal-glue-clear-ultraviolet-adhesives-uv-2-ml-with-precision-applicator-tip/ Not having an artificial source of UV, I tried a small test with sunlight tod...

Re: Gladstone luminous hands

Thanks Dan. This is the first three-piece case I've acquired and I was a little baffled at first, taking it apart, until I saw those screws. Looking for the set spring lever at a parts house, I see this part said to fit all 987x models but that looks wrong to me. I don't see this part in the 987F. I...

Gladstone luminous hands

I recently acquired this 1930 Gladstone, correctly described as not running. The WGF case is in nearly perfect shape but the dial needs to be redone. My question is, what can be done with those hands? They are in near-perfect condition except for the missing infill material, whatever that was (?). I...

mainspring question

Most of my growing collection is from 1935-41 with 980-982-982M movements. So far I have been lucky that upon receipt most have run more than 40 hours on a full wind, but I need a couple of mainsprings and want to have a couple of spares. The parts catalog (thanks Dan) lists three part numbers (Dyna...
