I probably wouldn't take the dial out and lick it, but for just wearing them, they're fine.

Re: Site indicated as not secure -

I, too, get this. It means the site is delivering information without encryption. If you look at the actual address of a page, it begins with "http:" rather than "https:". For example, this thread is "http://vintagewatchforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=13168&sid=457eec95a5b283f45c3884e7bf3e181a". Th...

Site indicated as not secure -

Just an FYI that I have noticed the sites is showing as not secure. Just a guess that maybe related to outdated software version such as TLS.
I do strongly advise it be addressed by the site admin.

Timex Monroe

I have been working on some of my older pieces and today chose this 1953 Monroe. 3 step ultra sonic cleaning, lube, grease, polish and even a new old stock crystal. Running like a champ. Also show with an advert from the era and an original copy of the letter Timex sent out to service shops. This le...

Re: WRUW 12/23 through 12/29/18?

This 1979 Timex Pepsi "Q" had been waiting in repair bin for much too long. I had tried several times before and it would run for days and than stop intermittently while on the wrist.
So this time I just swapped the movement. Lets see it that will do the trick this time.

Re: looking for info on vintage pocket watches

I'd think the restoration cost would exceed the value of the watches. That is unless you know they are part of your family history. Than you may consider having a watch maker check them out. You can search "SOLD" Elgin pocket watches on EBay to get a ball park idea of selling value. Same would be tr...

Re: Question about parts sold on "the swamp"

JMo, I've been a happy user there for over 20 years. I called it a swamp because 1) that's what it's been called here 2) you have to be careful not to drown in it 3) you have to comb through the muck to find the gems 4) every now and again you'll find some real swamp creatures there attempting to p...

Re: Question about parts sold on "the swamp"

my experience with buying assortment parts such as you are considering generally do not pan out. You use one or two parts and than it sits just as it did for decades in the watch shop of the former owner.

I am curious as to why use the term "the swamp" and yet consider to buy from there?
