Re: Getting my toe wet?

so to get to the end quick the best suggestion is that if you are wanting to get in some level of repairs you are best to buy parts lots. Plenty of offering s of crowns, new and used on ebay.

good to get a pin vise too, this is used to hold the stem while you twist down the crown. good luck.

OptCom 1 - Repair Tips

Has anyone here had any success to get one of these back in working order? So far, I've use alcohol to clean the display contacts and the set switch. Also check for cold solder joints but no luck. Guess I'll have to dig out the multi meter and scope. Would be really cool to get this one going again....

I'll take some better pics. Pardon, but what are lugs?
The lugs are the the posts at the corners of the case that the band or strap attach to.

I thought crown @ 3 indicated the movement was for a hunter case.
maybe once was in a hunter case that was scrapped or replaced?

Re: Unsigned Mechanism from Antique Shop... What is it?

well it is not an automatic. likely a very generic Swiss made stem wind and set pocket watch movement. for what amounts to about 64 cents US I may have bought it to just to have on hand.
would be a good movement to practice taking apart and putting back together.

Re: WRUW? Which of the three types of watch wearer are you?

Teddy Flood - typically the watch I wear each day is the last one I worked on. Wind it up, check that it is still running and go from there. Tomorrow is another day and most likely another watch. If I do wear the same watch for more than one day, I only check if the date wheel has advanced. "Twiligh...
