Re: For SALE ? Hamilton Wristwatches by Rene Rondeau

I remember calling and speaking with Rene when I bought his book maybe 15 years ago. I wish now that I had bought a dozen! Rene is too hard on himself when it comes to his fine book. While a lot more infomation is out there (especially here) today, I still find it to be the best way to quickly confi...

Re: Illinois "Hudson"???

My guess is that it might refer to either the Hudson Railroad or the Hudson Canal. The company that became the Mohawk and Hudson Railroad was registered in 1826 -- its original goal was to compete against the Erie Canal, but it also hosted the first stream locomotive in the US -- the Dewitt Clinton....

Ebay offer, ODDITY

Has anyone ever had a situation where you made an offer on eBay, the seller couter-offered, and just as you open the page to see the counter-offer ebay "burped" and accepted the offer on your behalf? LOL, but VERY annoying! I am dealing with an idiot seller who previously counter offered me $490 for...

Perhaps it the history?

Mark, I think this watch is most likely perfectly fine, and imagine that the answer likely lies in the history of the Caliber 11 movement, and in the fact that the years 1968-70 was a frenzied-time for the 3 different "teams" competing to make, market, and mass product the world's "first" automatic ...

Re: Regretting a sale.

The secret is to give the spouse a watch too, get them into it!! And then the kids, then your golden. Mark, I didn't work! Years ago I got her a terrific Ladies Curvex, and then a nice WG Hamilton Chevy Chase, and she never wanted to wear either of them. I then let her wear my Elgin Mermaid once or...

Re: Regretting a sale.

Back in 2012 I made the mistake of laying out all of the watches I had restored. As I basked upon the vast treasure that had been accumulated my wife walked in. I think her reaction could not have been worse if she caught me with another woman, as when she saw the arrangement of 175+ watches strewn...

Nice watch!

I'm a sucker for movement numbers, and this is a cool one! That said, I wonder if you buried the lead? Is this beauty solid gold? A picture of inside the back would be nice to see.

Was it lady-like for one to swivel her lugs in the 1920s?
