While I would be willing to have a non-rare case engraved, I think this price is too much. Gold is MUCH easier to engrave than stainless steel, and the same guys who charge half that to engrave a much larger Colt 1911 would charge less to do so to a gold watch case.
I would not do this on a rare watch. I have been debating with myself to have engraving done on the Seecamp that carry daily. Here is a photo of similar work done by someone else...not one I own, but similarly cool.
