Re: Oval 14k hiding on eBay

Just so everyone knows, this watch NEVER sold for $305. The seller ended it early for a $1800 offer. Upon arrival to the buyer, when the back was opened it was gold filled, as expected. (YES, gold filled often acid-tests as solid gold even though it is not.) The seller supposedly knew how to run an ...

Re: White Merritt

Hi Bryan Here’s mine for your records. All original, including dial and no brassing as well. The 987a serial number is 0248094 which dates it to 1937. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/bffc/5sd2i5wegoluszm7g.jpg LOVE THIS! I will put a tan or brown strap on mine and take a less washed-out photo of ...

Rick, got your name on it?
LOL, nope, here is a fast snap of mine without even a cloth polish. The fact it's wearing an old black strap confirms that I've never worn it. I need to fix that! I will and post a better photo.

Re: Blind man’s cushion

I wonder if there was a cottage industry converting dials for the blind? These both seem long before 1939, and are also far different than the design in the 1939 Hamilton papers discussing a blind mans watch. I DO know that such watches exist (not by Hamilton, necessarily) as I saw one in 1986... as...

Re: Exploding Hastings, opinions??

The 1's (1, 10, 11, 12) are also different. But, the illustration from the advertisements is not a photograph, but merely a drawing. It kind of makes no sense that this dial would have serifs on every number and also on the Hamilton font but not on the number 1, does it? Who knows how correct this i...

Re: Exploding Hastings, opinions??

We know that Hamilton contracted-out quite a few dials to Stern, Flukinger, plus I think a few casemakers, and likely others too. I also have a feeling that some plates might have made and re-made as to cause dials to appear slightly different over time -- there are too many slight Tonneau dial vari...

Re: Exploding Hastings, opinions??

I enlarged it on purpose to show it at its worst. Frankly, the sloppy luminous is not noticeable in your hand with a naked eye. (And when I blow-up an original printed, not engraved, Oval dial it looks pretty much the same.) I think it might be more of a crusty luminous/radium burn than sloppiness. ...

Here is the reverse... no engraved numbers that I can see, seemingly

merely scratches from being stored in a back back-to-back with another dial.
