Re: How do you identify lady's models?

I gather that you haven't yet acquired a copy of Fred Friedberg's massive new work, The Illinois Watch and Its Hamilton Years, or you wouldn't be asking this question. Chapter 10, which provides detailed identification of all the known Illinois ladies' models, is HUGE!!!

Re: WRUW 10/14 through 10/20/2018?

For a meeting today I chose a larger watch, a GGF Elgin "Oval":

For church today I wore a white gold Elgin 16/0 size watch from about 1926:

An Illinois was my choice today too -- a WGF engraved "Jolly Roger":

On this beautiful early fall Sunday my wristwear was one of the three Elgin "Callot" models, complete with its original Sturdy mesh band:

Re: Where can I find information on Elgin Thrift series and Waltham Chevalier Deco period watches

Welcome to the forum! For information on the Thrift Series, you might look at my catalog pages that are posted here: http://www.vintagewatchforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=5001 The Thrifts are on pages 13 and 14 of the catalog in question (page numbers are upper righthand corner). The Illinois Watch...

Re: Elgin base metal case.

Any idea of a source for that 1936 jobber's catalog? Gabe, I can't quite tell what it is you're asking. If your question means you're asking where I found the information, the answer is that it came from a Ball Blue Book catalog I have in my collection. But if you're asking where you can get a copy...

Great watches, guys! (I was beginning to be afraid no one was wearing watches anymore! )

Thanks for the compliment on my Elgin, tnwareagle89! I really, really like that green dial Hammy of yours!

Re: What model is this?

It's not an actual Elgin model. (With one of those, there should be Elgin's formula inside the case back indicating that the watch had been cased and timed at the Elgin factory.) Instead, it's an Elgin movement in a generic rectangular cut-corner case (mid to late 1920s) that might also have housed ...

Re: Need replacement dial for Legionnaire with enamel numerals on case

Gabe, I'd get ID to refinish it, if I were you. They're very reasonable in price, and I understand that they have masters for almost all the Elgin dials. (Although diveboy has a lot of NOS Elgin dials, I don't remember seeing that one among them. Of course, you could ask him . . .)
