What a striking combo! I love seeing those 50's Elgins with their original attachments, and your "Curtis" looks great!

Today's watch was a little Bulova "Aztec" in green gold with multicolor enamel:

Re: WRUW 7/22 through 7/28/2018?

Today I've been wearing one of my favorite Illinois watches, a "Blackstone" I got from Fred last year that has a lovely sparkle dial:

Re: What model is this?

Oh yes, I'd certainly replace that dial. I think I'd go with the Otto Frei dial #2047 that afire mentions. It's like the one on the other specimen of this watch that I saw -- it looks great with that case. P.S. Lest my earlier post seem confusing -- Model 206 is the original version of the so-called...

Re: Model 1629 Home Run

This one has 15 jewels. Did the senior 680 come with fifteen jewels? No, the Senior 680 had a 7-jewel movement, and it was fitted with a leather strap. Sometimes these were swapped for metal bracelets, which were popular. However, since your great-grandfather's watch has a 15-jewel movement, maybe ...

Re: What model is this?

This isn't a 226, is it? No, it isn't, though there are some surface similarities in case design between it and the 206, the "Skyscraper." (I guess you'd been taking a look at the set of catalog pages I posted for this forum back in 2014.) For starters, this watch is an 18/0 size; the 206 is a 10/0...

WRUW 7/22 through 7/28/2018?

On this rainy Sunday morning, a Gruen "Cartouche Orné 5" brightened my wrist:

Re: Cool Ephemera

Beautiful advertising leaflet, Jerry! I believe it's likely from the autumn of 1927 -- for the Christmas trade that year. (Many of the watches advertised in it, and the copywriting for them, correspond to what Illinois ran in its pages for 1928 jobbers' catalogs, which would have been being assemble...

Re: Fantastic Finds Fred's New book...

Here is a rare trifecta of the Greyhound, The Motorcoach, and a rare custom dial Off Duty. A small correction: the name is "Motor Coach" (2 words), with no "The." One might say that discovering the identity of this heretofore unknown model was itself a "Fantastic Find"! ;) (Quite a tale, and recoun...

Re: Illinois - early ww

It threw me some when I saw it was an Illinois case also. A lot of people get thrown off because of the Illinois name. It's easy to do if you aren't aware that the Illinois Watch Case Company (Elgin, Illinois) and the Illinois Watch Company (Springfield, Illinois) were entirely different companies ...
