Re: WRUW 9/16 through 9/22/2018?

Thanks, guys, for compliments about the Gruen Cartouche Orné 3 with which I started the week!

Here, in answer to a special request from NWI Mark, is Orné 3 again, along with its siblings Orné 1, 2, 4, and 5:

Re: introduction with new acquisition

Welcome to the forum! You're correct about the date of the movement: the database I use shows it as a Grade 447, Model 5, 10/0 size, 7-jewel movement from 1925. The case, however, looks to me like one from the 1930s. But that's not too surprising, since earlier Elgin movements sometimes show up in l...

Re: WRUW 9/9 through 9/15/2018?

I've been on a kick of wearing ittle ladies' watches lately, but today's choice was a men's -- an Elgin Model 208:

Re: WRUW 9/9 through 9/15/2018?

I knew that the dinner before an organ recital I was going to tonight would feature Mexican cuisine, so I figured that one of Bulova's so-called Aztec models would be the most appropriate choice for wristwear: http://mrtoad.net/Media/201809WRUW/Bulova_Aztec.jpg This watch was one of Fred Friedberg's...

Re: WRUW 9/9 through 9/15/2018?

It was an Illinois today for me too, but of an earlier era and style. Mine is a ladies' Tonneau model, in an unusual 6/0 size white gold engraved case with swivel lugs; another unusual feature is its moiré dial: http://mrtoad.net/Media/201809WRUW/Illinois_Tonneau-moire.jpg In Fred Friedberg's new bo...

Re: Looks like this watch belong here

Looks like it could be something interesting.
YOU BET!!! It's a "Chesterfield," a very hard-to-find and very desirable Illinois model. It's one of only two Illinois models that have two-tone white and yellow gold-filled bezels.

Quite a find -- congrats! And welcome to the forum!

WRUW 9/2 through 9/8/2018?

I hope you're all having a safe and pleasant Labor Day weekend! For church on the first Sunday in September, I wore a Gruen "Cartouche Orné 2": http://mrtoad.net/Media/201809WRUW/Gruen_Orne-2.jpg P.S. I goofed with the heading last week -- my apologies! I meant to have the dates run our usual Sunday...
