Re: Compulsive Solid Gold Hamilton Buckle Questions

Definitely not original, the shape is incorrect for a 1950s Hamilton buckle. Still, a nice item!

Re: Compulsive Solid Gold Hamilton Buckle Questions

While I hate to say 'never' when it comes to Hamilton, in 35 years of collecting and dealing I've personally never seen an original Hamilton buckle without the Hamilton name. Given how common it is to change straps (and buckles) over many decades, I'm strongly disinclined to believe it left the fact...

Re: Hamilton Everest lug holes?

I'm not sure which came first but many Electrics can be found with holes either drilled through or only on the inside of the lugs. If I were to guess, I'd say the drilled through came first. I say that because it's common on Pacers with 500 movements, but not on 505s. It can't rule out the possibili...

It's a Hamilton timepiece that runs on a battery — would it surprise you to know it is not working?
Just slap a quartz movement in there and be done with it.

Re: Dixon dial

Definitely refinished, and not at all correctly. International Dial could put it right again.

Both hands are incorrect. Not only do they not match, the hour hand is too long and the minute hand is too short.

Re: Hamilton and the NAWCC

Yes, I am one of those on the list, however I was not able to participate in the conference call due to a time conflict. It sounds like an interesting idea.

To be continued!

Re: A Hamilton by any other name...Vantage!

Unfortunately, although the 505 and 555E have obvious similarities (and share some parts) they are different enough that it's not a simple matter to swap out one for the other. The original dial feet for the 505 dial would have to be cut off, and the dial affixed to the 555E with some kind of adhesi...

Re: Anyone got a Chronograph B dial?

I found one in one of my parts drawers a year or two ago, which I had entirely forgotten about. It was the alternate version, black sub-dials on white background. Near-NOS. I sold it on eBay for about $600....

Re: Fred's New Book

I received my books this week and I have to say in all honesty that it vastly exceeds my expectations -- and those were very high indeed. I'm blown away. I had read the entire text when I offered to proofread it but the illustrations in that draft version were not complete and not laid out. Seeing e...

Re: Vancott, 10k & 14k

The engravings on these were done at the Hamilton factory. The process used acid etching, creating extremely sharp details but also extremely shallow markings. It's not difficult to polish these off, so it's possible yours had been engraved, but someone chose to remove it. If done carefully it is di...
