Re: How many watches would the average guy have owned in the 50's and 60's?

Thanks for the stories. It would seem to back up what I was thinking. I talked to my dad over the last weekend and he confirmed he was a one-watch guy from the time that he started to wear them in the later 50's. He said it was nearly always a Timex because they were inexpensive and reliable. Just a...

How many watches would the average guy have owned in the 50's and 60's?

One of the things that fascinates me about researching and collecting vintage items (such as watches and fountain pens) is to think about the people who would have used these item when they were new. In the internet age it seems like we've gone crazy collecting things that someone in the 50's or 60'...

Re: Hamiltons in the Movies

Was the movie with the Brandon and the clock "Don't bother to knock"? It was Crime Wave. But I've seen Don't Bother to Knock. Marilyn was gorgeous but my goodness she was disturbed in that movie. And it looks like Bluto dragged that Hamilton behind his car for a few miles. It's seen better days!

Re: Hamiltons in the Movies

Doing more research it looks like the black dial watch is a Brandon. The second watch is a Steeldon (steel case) and the third watch is a Norde (14kt case).

But I could always be wrong.

Re: Hamiltons in the Movies

Doing some research on the models above. I assumed the round watches were steel but it's very possible they were gold.

Re: Hamiltons in the Movies

I watched the movie Crime Wave last night on TCM's Noir Alley with Eddie Muller. Three Hamilton's made an appearance thanks to a bank heist that was supposed to go down just after 12 noon. Lots of checking of watches. I found it a neat touch that the gold case/black dial watch was worn by the well d...

Re: April Arrivals... What's New?

My first vintage Hamilton--the Myron. I also own a couple of modern Hamilton Khaki's and a Hamilton military watch from the late 60's/early 70's. I sourced a pigskin Gemex strap for the Myron and will get it fully serviced soon (but I want to wear it for about a week first!) Webp.net-resizeimage (2)...

Re: K-409 with US Military Service Number on the back

That is definitely a military service number. It's post-Korean War.

Here is the U.S. government link on how to request information for a service member:

What model is in the photo below? It looks similar to the Gruen in the movie. Although it doesn't have the railroad track chapter ring.
