Re: Would appreciate some info on this Benrus

I work in a building designed by Cass Gilbert and it looks very much like the same aesthetic used there, which tells me that, at the latest, it might be the early 30's.

38 mm. high, 25 mm. wide

AFAIK, there is no place to look up Benrus serial numbers. Is there?

Is it possible that this is from the 20's?

What does the "model 5" mean? And the 43135?

Re: Round Sportsman?

Thank you, Fred,

I read those pages in your book.

Your contribution here certainly helps clear up the doubt that the unscrupulous in our industry sow.

Much appreciated. :D

Round Sportsman?

I've now seen fixed-lug round sportsman in both silveroid and silver cases, yet these are not listed in the bible. Anyone know any more about them? This is a silveroid one in a Keystone case with a 307 movement: silveroid.jpg pic9.jpg pic8.jpg And this is a silver one in a Wadsworth case with a 24 m...

Does this make sense?

I got this watch yesterday from my 94 year-old watch guy: WalthamCampus-4.jpg It's running and keeping perfect time. He tells me it was his grandfather's watch. The serial number is 24878490, which would put it at 1925. It looks very much like the Waltham Campus in this ad: WalthamCampusAd.jpg This ...

Re: Would it be offensive if...

I collected watches in the late 90's for a few years. I bought anything cheap that worked and struck my fancy. Over time, some of these ended up striking me as "meh", so I stopped wearing them. Fast-forward until about 2 years ago. I was bitten bad by a watch appreciation bug again. Now, I find some...

Home Run 667 (was: What model is this?)

There it is.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

With time, and actually holding them in hand, I expect to get far better recognition and recall of the models.

That period of design certainly piques my interest the most.

What model is this?

Here's a 15 jewel 6/0 from 1929 that I cannot find in Bruce's new Elgin Collector's Guide:

The serial number is 31933237, which makes it a grade 428 from 1929.
