Re: Some super cool Hammy's

Yep, very cool. Out of interest, were these prototype designs made in such a way as to have a crystal over the top to keep dust etc from the movement? Only, from looking at the Hamilton jump hour, which I assume is sharing the same case as a Webster, I can't see how such a crystal could have been fi...

Re: Post Your Mystery Hamiltons Here.

That's a perfectly nice Engraved Barrel, from 1927-30. See Dan's blog... http://www.hamiltonchronicles.com/2012/10/1927-barrel.html?m=1 One of my favourites, not hugely valuable, but a really nice daily wearer, and one that I think everyone should have in their collection. Really nice dial as well. ...

Re: Mystery wrist watch from around 1900

Confused as to how the strap is fitted to the watch - lugs appear to be hidden front and back.

Good to hear, Mark. It looks like a lovely example. I will look forward to seeing the finished article when a case back finally makes an appearance. Congrats.

Ebay ID 142829121983

I was watching this auction with interest, but can't buy any more watches at the moment, so would love to see it restored (difficult, missing the case back!)

Re: Replacement part for a New Yorker

1) yes that could make sense I guess. I'd have thought you'd only need a new main plate if the detente screw had damaged the hole in the plate. Surely more likely the thread on the detente is knackered so won't tighten fully . 2) ebay ( or maybe give Fred a buzz?) 3) Personally, I'd look for a repla...

Re: Illinois Square Cut Corner

Beautiful job. Lovely how it's all come together.
So much better with a decent crown and hands. The case looks great, and that dial is fabulous. One to be worn with pride I think!

Re: Post Your Mystery Hamiltons Here.

It does not look like it has a crystal fitted, which means the internals will be dirty? Even if it does have a crystal, and even if it seems to be running ok now, it is not a good idea to run a vintage watch for long periods if it hasn't been serviced. It may run ok for a while, but old encrusted lu...
