Re: Latest restorations before n after

Thanks. I like it too. Couldn't get original dial pattern from ID with closed minutes track, but actually think I prefer the look of this pattern anyway, even though it is not original.

Re: First 980 full stripdown (by me!)

Ha ha. Sorry, didn't mean to keep you in suspense. Took bloomin ages, but got there in the end. Really struggled getting the bridge on over the escape, 4th and 3rd wheel, but got there by blind luck in the end. Is there a trick to doing this more easily that anyone knows if, as it was crazy fiddly?

Re: Unusual Illinois Wrist Watch

It's a Cushion. If it's an Illinois case, it's from 1926. Are you able to post photos of the inside case back and the movt. I suspect it's been redialled like that as it doesn't look to me like an original dial, or maybe has a pocket watch movement fitted, photos would confirm.

Re: Latest restorations before n after

Finished working on my latest 1951 Hamilton Boyd today. Had to refinish the dial, as the old dial wouldn't clean up, clean and polish the case, fit a new crystal and fit a new strap. Cross that I lost the original seconds hand, and would like to find a nicer hour hand, but overall I'm pleased with t...

Re: Cost of a watch service - Back in the day

I decided a while back to teach myself how to do a COA, as servicing fir me in the UK woukd be prohibitive. I have cocked up several Hamilton 980 movements in the process, but am nearly there now, and can hopefully resurrect most of my mistakes.

Re: Dial Hall of Shame

FABULOUS HALL OF SHAME EXAMPLE...

Piccadilly listed on ebay for ONLY $3995. How long does it take you to spot it??? Just shows its not just the cheaper models. Now what this really needs is some sort of palm tree as well :)

The new crystal arrived for mine a few days ago, and I finally had the chance to fit it and wear this lovely watch for...

Re: New Generation of Vintage Collectors

Actually, my favourite bit in his letter is "I cannot believe it's from 1971, it looks so professional"

Then again, my 5yo daughter refers to the 70's (my childhood) as 'in the Olden Days '
