Elgin PW-which way to loosen ratched wheel screw?

Hi All, I'm just learning the very basics at this point. I've picked up an Elgin grade 345, 12s PW on ebay. Here's more info: https://pocketwatchdatabase.com/search/result/elgin/20602697/movement It runs for maybe a minute at most before stopping. I'm attempting to disassmble and clean it as it's te...

Re: Need advice on hand puller

That worked. The second hand came off with the dial.

Thank you!

Re: Need advice on hand puller

I ordered this https://www.esslinger.com/bergeon-30637 ... d-remover/

It got the hour/min hands off but the claw is too thick to get under the second hand. Any suggestions? Can something be improvised?

Thank you

Need advice on hand puller

I've read complaints on Amazon about some of the pullers. I'm just learning and practicing on a pocket watch. What puller and press for reinstalling hands are recommended?

Many thanks!

Looking for 6497 movement to learn

These only seem to be ordered from China. Don't want to wait the month for shipping. Does anyone know of a US seller?

Thanks

Movement for learning

I was advised that a 6497 movement is optimal for learning to disassemble/reassemble. Swisslab has a step by step for doing this. Here http://www.eta.ch/swisslab/6497/6947.html My question is whether this is the same movement? It does say 6497 but want to be sure https://tinyurl.com/yccaaw5u Thank y...

Looking for a watch maker

Hi all

I've got a few, not so expensive, watches in need of servicing. Is there a maker that is recommended? The models are Tradition (a Sears brand from 70s), Rotary, Bifora and a British built Timex from the 60s that starts and stops. The others work.

Thank you
