Re: Question About 1978 Sun Bowl Elgin

‘Nuther question- in the early ‘60s, the Orange Bowl was giving players Elgins. (I really want a 1965 Orange Bowl watch, from Texas’ win over Bama). I picked up a dial on eBay for a 1963 (OU-Alabama, bought it because it was going cheap). It says 27 jewels, Elgin, self-winding, so I reckon it’s a 76...

Re: Question About 1978 Sun Bowl Elgin

That’s it! I’ll get the back off and see what it says. I’m trying to collect Longhorn bowl game watches. I just started and (as I told a watch collecting friend) “I’ve been buying some crappy watches” (bunch of recent quartz fossils). The older bowl game watches are where it gets interesting- Elgin’...

Question About 1978 Sun Bowl Elgin

I bought a 1978 Sun Bowl watch, with the durabalance logo on it. I bought it (not received yet) on eBay as a sports memorabilia collector, not as a watch collector. I’ll post pics when it arrives. The problem is that it doesn’t work, so I will need to get it fixed. My question is- what were Elgin’s ...

Re: '52 NY Yankee dial for Lord Elgin watch

It's hard to say on award watches. On some, they just stencil or stamp a logo (think Tiffanys on Rolex). On others, they order them special from an authorized factory distributor (the 1960s Cotton Bowl and Bluebonnet Bowl Omega Seamasters). And on others, it's like they redo the whole thing (I have ...

Re: Drawing a blank here...

It's beautiful. The minute and hour hands- did they used to have some kind of "Lume" material in the openings (hesitant to ask, because in the 20s they probably would use radium).

Re: Need Help Fixing Waltham 1883 Pocket Watch

Two watches. I know nothing about them. The smaller one has a puncture in the dial at 8:30. Are replacement dials available? I want to get them fixed for her.

Nice. The round dial reminds me of a Universal Geneve three hander.

Re: I have a dial infestation and its a good thing

Diveboy, I have a related question. I'd like, as a University of Texas Longhorn fan, to collect old bowl game watches (the kind given to the players). But they are hard to find. I thought about buying the vintage watch with the regular dial for the model, and asking somebody like International Dial ...

Re: Please Help Identify This 1952 Sugar Bowl Elgin

Thanks. I thought it was odd that it didn't have an engraved player's name on the back, as that was typical up until 1970 or so. Somewhere along the way, somebody probably replaced the original (engraved) back.
