Re: Alpina Gruen 14K two-tone

Thank god it's a ladies watch. I read the title and saw who posted it and thought "oh, s***, time to scrounge up some cash."

Cool watch. That case has Weber written all over it. I'm guessing a 5-digit serial number on the back?

Re: Questions about a Rectangular Filled-gold Gruen 148

And it was a tradition in Switzerland to stick to high material purity. I guess that's kind of what I figured. I know I have seen gold filled Swiss cases, but they're so rare compared to US gold filled cases, I wondered if there might have been some regulatory reason. But I'm sure tradition is reas...

Re: Questions about a Rectangular Filled-gold Gruen 148

There is a "strap 312" and a "Import 124" which look at least quite similar to your watch. Then I would think that it's a Strap 312. I've never seen a gold filled Import model, at least not from the pre-WWII era. In fact, I don't recall hardly ever seeing any gold filled Swiss cases. Kind of like h...

The seller responded with "the buyer was kind enough to cancel the transaction."
Wow, that was extraordinarily magnanimous of the buyer. Somebody's got some good karma coming his way.

Re: Help !

There may not be much to learn about the 24 hour dial. Before roughly the 1920s, most major American watch manufacturers didn't case their own watches. A jeweler or customer could select a movement, hands and dial from Elgin and a case from a case manufacturer. This would have been just one of many ...

Excellent choice. I think that band is pretty close to right on the money period-wise.

Re: Dear EBay Sellers:

I don't even begin to know how to process this one...... Capture.JPGCapture2.JPG JerseyMo, the seller is in Plymouth, WI. That is in Sheboygan County. Therefore, the likely explanation for this peculiar listing is delirium brought on by toxic levels of bratwurst consumption. It's an epidemic in tha...

Re: Post Your Mystery Hamiltons Here.

Looking for some ID help. I don’t know much about this watch as it was a gift from my mother in law. It has 28 jewels; eight on top, eight on bottom and 12 about the watch face. The back is stamped 14k gold and the face does say Hamilton. Please help! Thank you! Read this primer for identifying lad...
