Re: Any experience with Gruen 480-880?

Hi, welcome in the world of the Gruens. I can fully understand that you are fascinated by the Gruen watches and the companies history. So am I... I think you are referring to the Autowind Farragut which is a 480-880 watch (caliber 480, style number 880). Of cause this is a vintage watch. Take this a...

Re: Gruen 282 watch

Hmm,
it is relatively hard to find out anything about these modern Quartz watches which were sold under the Gruen brand. I would guess that this watch was built about 1990 plus minus a few years. The movement used might tell a little bit more, but this is all I can say.

Re: Production run on model 62 with 833 movement

Correct what afire wrote. This is one of the reasons why I am mostly collecting ladies watches, hoping that they one day will go up in price again. This watch would probably go around $100 plus / minus 50% nowadays. Keeping in mind that $85 in 1927 would equal about $1200 nowadays these watches lost...

Re: Production run on model 62 with 833 movement

Yes, also the movement serial points towards 1927 then, may also be 1926. I seem not to have an advertisement of this watch, but this is no wonder. The more expensive the watches were the less advertised they seem to have been. This way they made these watches more exclusive... The flip side of the ...

Re: Production run on model 62 with 833 movement

This watch is a nice Cartouche 245, you are correct, it was built in 1927. The case serial would fit perfectly towards this year. The watch was built at least until 1929 as it can be found in the 1927 stock record book as well as the 1929 Guild book which are kind of counter catalogues. The sales pr...

Re: Production run on model 62 with 833 movement

Hi Geoff, welcome to the Gruen forum! It is almost impossible to answer your questions. The 62 is not a model number, it is describing the shape of the crystal. There is most likely a number of watches with the 833 / 62 combination. As all company records are considered to be lost there is no chance...

Re: Please Help Identify This Watch

Hard to tell from the poor photos and without any view from the inside, but this could be the Curvex Chandler, one of the first "Curvametric" caliber 370 watches by Gruen. Curvex Chandler.JPG It was available from 1949 to 1951. But this is just a guess based on the photos, needs to be confirmed by m...

Re: Gruen watch

To answer the original question: no, there is no model called "Veri-Thin Curvex" from Gruen. "Veri Thin" and "Curvex" were trademarks owned by Gruen to market watches in different families. So a Gruen is either a "Veri-Thin", a "Curvex" or something else, but never a "Veri-Thin Curvex". As Jack alre...
