Re: Email and response

Is there something to get wrong from this: ME: That style watch was not made in the 30's, just an FYI. Enjoy the watch. HIM: Yes it was, I found it on the gruen website. It dated back to 1936. Found the serial number and style of calibur :) The watch guy even stated when it was made. I guess he know...

:D :D :D :D

Yes, there are really funny people around who do not want to believe in reality.
Yes it will be silver, at least it least looks like.
I also believe that this case was made in Asia, and yes the watch is from the about 1975. No doubt at all.

Re: Question about Gruen Pocket Watch

It neither sounds like a pocket watch nor does it sound "very old", although this appears to be relative to who asks the question. Sounds like a 70s watch to me with integrated bracelet from the description. SWISS MADE was not used much earlier than 1970 and Italian clasps or straps are also not tha...

Re: Help to ID this pendant Gruen please

It is a Gruen Geneve, so it is a watch from teh Gruen European sales organisation. They had their own models which started to sell in the 50s. There is not much known about these watches, there have only been a few ads in European papers. Only a few models made it to the US market, most fanous the S...

Re: Where to find hands for this Gruen?

It is almost impossible to Id the watch because at that time Gruen did not name their models. This looks like a "Strap 67" to me (I assume it is green gold filled). If it were a Nickel watch it were probably a "Strap 128". Strap 67 is from 1926, Strap 128 from 1929, names came up in 1930... The only...

Re: Where to find hands for this Gruen?

Gabe, yes, these are very likely the original hands. And they really easily break at the described point as the often have some erosion after 80 years... It will not be easy to find exactly this type of hands as NOS but you might be lucky to find a movement with hands at ebay for a reasonable price....

Re: my first Gruen

The ETA2472 should run 42 hours on a fully wound mainspring. Either your movement needs a good cleaning or someone replaced the mainspring with a wrong model or shortened a broken one. I am not familiar with that movement, so I do not know where the extra jewels are sitting, they may ver likely be i...

Re: my first Gruen

Does the movement have the GXC import tax stamping for Gruen? Otherwise it is either 1968 or later or was not intended to be imported into the US. The ETA2472 was produced from 1962 to 1971 as far as I know, so my dating should be about right. You should be able to get a movement for parts at eby re...

Re: my first Gruen

Hi Dom, welcome to this forum. Most often Gruens do not stay alone for long :-) The Gruen Geneve brand was the brand of the independent European sales organisation. Gruen US (and Canada) eventually imported watches from them (most famous the Super-G / Airflight) starting in the mid 50s until the ear...

Re: Men's Gruen 14K diamond dial ID

Hi Bryan,

it was introduced 1948, built until at least 1950 and did cost $150.
