Re: Dietrich Gruen Precision Watch - HELP!

I was going through the watches and movements found in the "Worthy Company" book. Gosh, what a FORK IN THE ROAD Gruen faced and took! This Dietrich Gruen model I think may be the pinnacle of Gruen's early movement work. Nothing else came close after this watch, in my opinion, in terms of master-craf...

Re: Quick ligne to mm / mm to ligne conversions....

Thanks very much for pointing it out.... Need to swap the labels and that'll fix it.

Gruen Interchangeability Tool + Gruen Movement Families

I'm getting closer to deploying a Gruen parts interchangeability tool. At the moment, I have the database complete! That's the "hard part" right? Well, maybe not so much. I'm debating exactly how to present it. There are a couple of ways and I'm thinking BOTH is the right answer :-) In one instance ...

Re: Caliber 440 movement serial number dating

I've EMBEDDED the scatter-plot of the 440 movements and wadsworth case on the serial number page. I hope that it doesn't slow things down too much. It's such a great tool for showing this data. The best way to view the graph is "full screen" on a PC. This will scale the graph so that all the data is...

Re: Case serial numbers found in The Gruen Watch Catalog reveal interesting data

Yea, all solid gold, which to me explains why the small "batch size", at least in terms of the individual models. I don't think the cases shown in The Catalog were special made to be shot for the catalog. I think Gruen probably made a mixed batch of watches, a normal production run perhaps of 50 of ...

Case serial numbers found in The Gruen Watch Catalog reveal interesting data

I noticed something remarkable about the serial numbers of the cases found in The Gruen Watch Catalog. What's nice about this printing is that I've been able to collect more serial numbers from Gruen watch cases by simply using the photos in The Catalog. I noticed that FOUR different models were all...

Re: Caliber 440 movement serial number dating

Made more updates to the dataset and posted the update to the Tableau workbook that you can find online. I'm frankly STUNNED that Tableau created a "Public" version of their normally $3,000 tool. They repriced everything such that individuals can get a copy for a few $100's, but even better, the FUL...

Re: Caliber 440 movement serial number dating

I have freshly collected 440 serial numbers and Wadsworth case numbers. I am adding to it. This graph is of 24 cases that I verified recently. I've got another 100 saved yet to be mined which is what I'm doing now. You can see and manipulate the data from this address: https://public.tableau.com/pro...

Re: Caliber 440 movement serial number dating

I doubt that production was linear over the year. There were peak seasons like XMAS or graduation time just to name the two highest peaks. So I believe that in about April and October the production numbers should have been at least doubling or tripling the figures of let's say January production.T...
