Going with a recently finished project watch I bought from HandyDan six months ago. My watchmaker found a balance staff and was able to shave down the shoulder, poise the balance assembly and rebuild a watch that keeps great time so far. Maybe you should try weaning yourself off. Is there a shopper's equivalent to methadone? It fools your body into thinking you've bought something, so you get that rush, but you haven't spent a thing. That's a very noticeable difference...nicely done! Yes, it probably will never be a highly prized piece of Seiko history, but you do have, as you say, a "presentable" example of it.
