Re: Depollier- Finally Back

Thanks for the explanation, Greg. I'm always looking for a Depollier I can afford. It's good to know what kind of project I'll be getting into. Joel

Elgin Crusader model 2893 8/0 grade 524 from 1935.

It’s amazing that ebay still has the ability to surprise me. This was supposed to be a simple, no-brainer auction. I wasn’t worried by the lack of inside the case photos. I knew exactly what this watch was. A model 2893 Crusader listed in the 1939 catalog and shown in several ads from the mid 30’s. ...

Re: Does this make sense?

"It looks very much like the Waltham Campus in this ad:" Except for the: Shape of the case sides. Shape of the lugs. Shape of the bezel opening. The printed minute tracks in the dial. Shape of the numerals. Case material. Attention to detail is essential when identifying a watch model. If we were co...

Re: What model is this?

This model is also shown on the fourth page of the '29/'30 models as the 697 with a metal band. I only have the preliminary edition of the guide so I can't give an actual page number. Elgin didn't do many dials in silver leaf. That's a gorgeous watch Bryan. Joel

Re: Help !

afire's post sparked a memory of seeing a list of Elgin dials on Wayne Schlitt's site www.ElginWatches.org. Amazingly enough the site is still up and looking through the scans of the 1896 Materials catalog I found exactly the information afire posited should exist. Take a look at illustration number...

Re: 1917 WWI Burlington "Aviator" Trench Watch

Good get Stan. I saw that auction and knew it was going to blow past my budget. I'm glad someone got it who knew what it was and would do it justice. I always put the buckle end on the 6 o'clock lugs of my watches. It makes it easier for my clumsy fingers to get them strapped on my wrist without dro...
