Re: Buyers Resources

You guys are ALL right! Keep the mistakes to a minimum and cheap for sure. The ones we are trying to avoid are the expensive ones. What you will see as you get more into collecting is, the hunt is the most exciting part. The searching, the finding, the asking, the bidding, the fixing and finally the...

Re: What do I have here?

It literally is a New Yorker with this specific dial. In Fred's first book he states: "This is another example of a different dial warranting a different model name." This case was a big seller for Illinois, so they must have tried to mix it up for maximum value. New Yorker New Yorker Enamel Manhatt...

Re: Marlin - reissue

Finally Got to meet JerseyMo in the flesh. Turns out we live in neighboring towns! He was showing me some BEAUTIFUL Timex. I have to say I was really impressed. For very affordable watches in their day, the classic lines and tough as nails workmanship was something to see. I can understand why Timex...

Re: Buyers Resources

Hi.... I"m new to American made watches and Illinois in particular. AS such, I'm prepared to make mistakes while I learn. I've seen some examples on eBay, but that is the land of Buyer Beware when it comes to vintage watches. Are there any other resources to buy Illinois watches? I don't see a clas...

Re: What do I have here?

You could say that is VERY loved. Actually, it is a New Yorker variation called a Yorktown. I too have never seen that amount of casewear on one of these EVER. The dial and movement have a little value, but the case is basically beyond repair. There are Lazer guys who could fix it, but these cases c...

Re: Clockmaker Died Trying to Save Clocks During Hurricane Harvey

What a very sad story... What I don't understand is the fact that everything went "missing"
Did the police not secure the place after they found him inside?
How did this secure place get looted?
So sad for the folks and the poor guy.

Re: A wristwatch book for pocket-watch collectors?

What a fantastic posting, with incredible insights into the new book. Fred told me that the book was going to have something for everyone, but this additional information from you is BIG stuff with a super wide audience. The 4 years of research and input from so many collectors has to make this one ...
