Re: Packard inscriptions

Something clicked in my head when I saw "Earl C. Anthony". Bingo! he owned radio station KFI in L.A., probably the biggest AM station in SoCal. A major player in the first half of the 20th Century in L.A. Also was exclusively a Packard dealer. There used to be a beautiful Packard showroom on Wilshir...

Re: My Gruen display

Interim report. I cleaned my display up a bit and gave it a once over with Brasso, but found it difficult due to the very deep areas around the astronomer and his student. Also, there is an intentional aging effect that I don't want to destroy. I avoided the blue area. Mark sent me a velvet bag (tha...

Re: WRUW 11/25/18 Thru 12/01/18

Storm King IV with Town & Country strap. I saw this strap, one of two, on eBay last week and was the only bidder for the pair. They were from the Caldwell Jewelers in Philly, long out of business. These are one-piece cotton straps, have to be the most comfortable straps ever. Very old school! The St...

Re: Longest award Watch. What do you have?

Jerry, particularly like the Waltham pocket watch inscription; I was a "paper boy" for the Detroit Free Press in approximately 1963-64. I didn't get a watch when I "retired" from that gig.

My itchy fingers came VERY close to bidding on that watch; happy you got it, Pat.

Re: My Gruen display

You have inspired me, Tank! I have a similar display that is a bit worse for wear. I will try your clean up method. I am stumped, though, by the pocket watch area, which is inscribed "Display copy card or pocket watch on velvet watch pad". Where would I find a "velvet watch pad?" You appear to have ...

Re: Hello Old Friends

It seems like a lot of new collectors - meaning mostly young - are in the Facebook Hamilton/Illinois/etc groups. Most may be unaware of VWF. I will try to put some links to information contained here, which hopefully will get some to see the huge amount of knowledge and experience on this site. We a...
